Dr. Sharla Biefeld, Ph.D.

Dr. Biefeld is the principal investigator in the B.O.D.Y Lab. She joined the University of Alabama Department of Psychology in the Fall of 2023, and is affiliated with the Center for Youth Development and Intervention. Their program of research centers on how the bodies we live in shape our experiences, how others treat us, and how we develop. Importantly, her work recognizes that body-based harassment is complex by considering context and the role of intersecting identities. Dr. Biefeld is particularly interested in body image among gender diverse youth.
