WHAT WE DO
In the BODY LAB we study how the bodies we live in shape our experiences, how others treat us, and how we develop. We also investigate how experiences of harassment and discrimination (at an individual and systemic level) impact mental and physical health across the lifespan and the ways that body justice, intersecting identities, and community membership foster healthy development. These experiences are complex and we aim to capture this complexity by attuning to the role of intersectionality and the utalization of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
Work in the lab spans development, social, and health psychology. For example, we study topics such as:
(1) Body image in transgender youth
(2) Eating disorder symptomatology
(3) Intersecting identities
(4) Peer SOGIE and sexual harassment
(5) Objectification and dehumanization
(6) Weight-bias
